Introduction

Our learning cluster will be analyzing three topics: hibakusha, nuclear power, and nuclear weapons from both the Japanese and Korean perspectives.  These three topics should be studied from two perspectives: first, of how Hiroshima is represented both within Japan and throughout the world; and second, of how we can directly relate the voices of A-bombing survivors to our efforts to achieve world peace.
The Atomic bomb is a symbol of superiority in technology and science, which in turn has driven the world since 1945 toward nuclear proliferation including the construction of nuclear power plants. Hibakusha’s opinion with regard to both nuclear weapons and nuclear power, therefore, can be powerful in our discussion of peace because they are the only victims of nuclear weapons in warfare and their memories are uniquely important in representing non-theoretical arguments regarding what true peace is and what it means to live in a nuclear-free world.
